- Purpose
The purpose of this study is to construct and verify a path model for the factors affecting on quality of life in long-term care insurance in-home service users.
Methods Total 246 participants using long-term care insurance in-home service were recruited from long-term care agencies. Data collection was conducted using a structured questionnaire from March 1st to March 31st 2021. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26 and AMOS 26 programs.
Results The hypothetical path model was suitable for explaining the health-related quality of life in long-term care insurance in-home service users and has an explanatory power of 39.8%. Long-term care grade, depression, perceived health status, social support, age and living arrangement had a significant total effect on the quality of life in long-term care insurance in-home service users.
Conclusion Long-term care insurance in-home service policies need to be expanded, such as screening and relieving depression, strengthening social support, and fostering a positive perception of health to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

- Purpose
This study aimed to determine the effects of gestational diabetes mellitus, breastfeeding-related pain, and infant growth on the cessation of breastfeeding. Methods: This is secondary data analysis. This study included 60 pregnant women from 3 prenatal breastfeeding clinics. Pregnant women aged 20–49 years, with or without a diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus were enrolled. The participants were administered four self-reported questionnaires, one at 5 days, 14 days, 3 months, and 6 months postpartum. A linear mixed model and Cox regression analysis were used. Data were collected between May 25, 2020 and June 14, 2021. Results: The rate of breastfeeding cessation was 55.0% (n=33). The average maternal ages were 32.30 (±4.61) and 31.33 (±7.05) years in the cessation and maintenance groups, respectively. The average duration of breastfeeding in the cessation group was 56.27 (±37.48) days. After adjusting for all covariates, the risk of breastfeeding cessation was 2.5 times greater among participants diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (p=.042). Additionally, the risk of breastfeeding cessation was 1.3 times greater among those with severe breastfeeding-related pain (p=.015). Conclusion: The first two months postpartum is the most essential time for healthcare workers to provide support and address difficulties associated with breastfeeding for mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus.

- Purpose
The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge and health beliefs about gestational diabetes and to identify the influence on breastfeeding intention of women those who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Methods A cross-sectional descriptive study was designed. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 270 women who were pregnant and currently diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Data collection was conducted at Internet cafes and breastfeeding clinics where pregnant women were able to participate actively. The data collection period was from November 5 to November 27, 2019 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, x 2 test and multiple logistic regression. Results The average age of the participants was 34.21±3.73 years. There were 221 women who had breastfeeding intention, and 49 women who did not intend to breastfeed. The higher the perceived susceptibility (OR=2.49, p=.032), benefits (OR=2.62 p=.009), and the self-efficacy, the higher the intention to perform breastfeeding (OR=2.97, p=.004). On the other hand, the higher the perceived severity, the lower the intention to perform breastfeeding (OR=0.35, p=.007). Conclusion: Health beliefs such as perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, self-efficacy and perceived severity have been shown to affect the breastfeeding intention. Based on these results, we suggest developing a breastfeeding promotion intervention program that improves self-efficacy in gestational diabetics.

Abstract

- PURPOSE
This study was conducted to examine the degree of senile macular degeneration in elders aged 65 or older and identify factors associated with senile macular degeneration in elders within communities. METHODS Participants in this cross-sectional descriptive study were 388 elders without cataract, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Data were collected through face to face interviews using a questionnaire in an urban area from June 2010 to December 2011. To detect senile macular degeneration, the participants' self-tests were carried out with Amsler grid testing. Stepwise multivariate logistic regression was performed to evaluate the effects of health behavior and knowledge about eye health on senile macular degeneration. RESULTS The proportion of participants with senile macular degeneration was 11.6%. Factors that significantly increased the risk of senile macular degeneration included eye discomfort and history of ophthalmic examination (p<.05). Factors that significantly decreased the risk of senile macular degeneration included regular change of magnifiers, non-use of magnifiers, and knowledge about preventive effects of non-smoking and antioxidant vitamin intake on senile macular degeneration (p<.05). CONCLUSION This study showed that programs for preventing senile macular degeneration were necessary for elders within communities and the results of this study can be used for developing those programs.

- PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to ascertain current status of pneumococcal vaccination for the elderly and their knowledge, awareness and preventive behaviors for the vaccination and to verify the relationship between results. METHODS This cross-sectional study was performed using a questionnaire. Data were collected from 114 elderly people over 65 years at one community center from October to November in 2011. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS. RESULTS The vaccination rate of the elderly was as low as 19.3%. The most common reason for no vaccination was 'Because I did not know about it' (64.0%), and the intention to vaccination was to ascertain in 77.2%. The scores of knowledge, awareness and preventive behavior for vaccination were 0.31/1, 1.15/3 and 1.48/2, respectively. The knowledge for vaccination was significantly different by gender and education. The awareness of vaccination showed statistically significant difference by religion, perceived health status and experience of vaccination. A positive correlation was observed between both knowledge and awareness and awareness and preventive behavior for vaccination. CONCLUSION The pneumococcal vaccination rate of the elderly was relatively low. To develop, therefore, the educational program for improving awareness and preventive behavior regarding pneumococcal vaccination of the elderly is necessary.

Abstract

- PURPOSE
To investigate the frequency of breakfast skipping and affecting factors in children in poverty. METHODS The subjects were 644 children who were receiving the services of community child center or delivery meal-box. They were asked about their socio-demographic characteristics, health behaviors and breakfast-skipping status in the survey. RESULTS Breakfast-skippers were 17.4% of the subjects. The count of negative health behaviors in breakfast skippers was higher than that in eaters, and the behaviors of exercise, screen time, alcohol experience, and smoking experience were worse in skippers than in eaters. The odds ratio of breakfast skipping was higher in female children (OR=2.53, p<.001), those with single father (OR=3.76, p<.001) or single mother (OR=1.83 p=.030), those with alcohol experience (OR=1.82, p=.022) and smoking experience (OR=2.80, p=.003), and under-weight ones (OR=2.54, p=.048). CONCLUSION Breakfast skipping is associated with gender, family structure, alcohol experience, smoking experience and BMI. Children in poverty need comprehensive health promotion programs including interventions for breakfast skipping and health behaviors.

- PURPOSE
This study was performed to investigate the effects of lower urinary tract symptoms on depression and quality of life among women in urban areas. METHODS The participants in this study were 306 women in P city. Data were collected using a questionnaire from May 1 to June 6, 2008. Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) were measured with BFLUTS-SF and categorized into voiding, filling and incontinence. The data were analyzed through t-test, one-way ANOVA, Fisher exact test, and multiple regression. RESULTS Age, filling and incontinence, and all of the subcategories of LUTS explained 16% of variance in depression. Older women, LUTS with incontinence, filling and incontinence, and all the problems including filling, voiding and incontinence lowered the quality of life. CONCLUSION In order to develop nursing interventions for women with urinary tract symptoms, comprehensive understanding of LUTS is needed.
