PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to identify differences in disaster awareness, disaster preparedness, and nursing knowledge and practices between Korean and Japanese nursing students.
METHODS
The study subjects were 4th grade nursing students who completed their nursing education in Korea or in Japan. 359 students from Korea and 135 students from Japan participated in this study. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 21.0. The χ2 test and the t-test were used to analyze the homogeneity of subjects' general characteristics and disaster-related characteristics. The comparison between the Korean and Japanese nursing students in disaster awareness, disaster preparedness, and nursing knowledge and practices were conducted using ANCOVA.
RESULTS
The Korean nursing students' disaster awareness, disaster preparedness, and nursing knowledge and practice were different from their Japanese counterparts'. The Korean nursing students recognized that the system of disaster management in Korea was insufficient and the negligence of management was one of the causes of the disaster. They wanted to participate in activities for disaster preparedness education and management.
CONCLUSION
A disaster nursing curriculum dealing with disaster awareness, disaster preparedness, and nursing knowledge and practices, should be developed, implemented, and evaluated particularly for Korean nursing students.

PURPOSE
The purpose of the present study is to examine risk factors for unawareness of obstructive airflow limitation among adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
METHODS
Secondary data analysis was performed with the data from the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES; 2013–2014). The data were analyzed with the IBM SPSS 22.0 version using frequency, percentage, odds ratio, and logistic regression.
RESULTS
Ninety-eight percent of subject with a pulmonary function test score of FEV1/FVC < 0.7 (N=833) did not recognize that their lung function was impaired. The heavy drink, absence of tuberculosis or asthma diagnosis, and no symptom of expelling phlegm were identified as major risk factors for unawareness of airflow limitation.
CONCLUSION
In order to increase awareness of airflow limitation and to prevent the worsening of the condition, the pulmonary function screening test should be provided to community residents including those who do not show symptoms of respiratory illness.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to ascertain current status of pneumococcal vaccination for the elderly and their knowledge, awareness and preventive behaviors for the vaccination and to verify the relationship between results.
METHODS
This cross-sectional study was performed using a questionnaire. Data were collected from 114 elderly people over 65 years at one community center from October to November in 2011. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS.
RESULTS
The vaccination rate of the elderly was as low as 19.3%. The most common reason for no vaccination was 'Because I did not know about it' (64.0%), and the intention to vaccination was to ascertain in 77.2%. The scores of knowledge, awareness and preventive behavior for vaccination were 0.31/1, 1.15/3 and 1.48/2, respectively. The knowledge for vaccination was significantly different by gender and education. The awareness of vaccination showed statistically significant difference by religion, perceived health status and experience of vaccination. A positive correlation was observed between both knowledge and awareness and awareness and preventive behavior for vaccination.
CONCLUSION
The pneumococcal vaccination rate of the elderly was relatively low. To develop, therefore, the educational program for improving awareness and preventive behavior regarding pneumococcal vaccination of the elderly is necessary.

PURPOSE
This study is to identify the types of role awareness of home health care specialists working at medical institutions, to understand their role awareness correctly by grasping the quality of each type, and to provide useful help in the education of home health care specialists.
METHOD
Q-methodology is used to objectify role awareness of medical institution specialists who may recognize situations differently according to their individual experience and comprehension based on the view of behavior. Q-classification was carried out on 30 home health care specialists working at medical institutions using 30 selected questions. Collected data were examined through factor analysis using QUANL PC program.
RESULTS
Three different types of role awareness of home health care specialists working at medical institutions were identified. Type I is "educational-function-centered", Type II "patient-centered" and Type III "professional-service-centered".
CONCLUSION
Regardless of these types, home health care specialists commonly had a high pride as a specialist and a sense of mission regarding themselves as important persons responsible for patients' health.
