PURPOSE
Recent advances in computer and mobile technologies have brought increasing usages of IT technology in nursing research across nursing fields. Despite the increasing usages, there has been little discussion on methodological issues involved in nursing research using IT technology. This is a discussion paper to identify methodological issues in IT technology-based nursing research.
METHODS
An analysis was done using content analysis on research team meeting minutes and research team members' research diaries in a clinical trial that tested the efficacy of a technology-based intervention. First, several major categories of IT technology-based nursing research are concisely summarized. Then, the method that was used for this analysis is presented.
RESULTS
The findings are presented as themes reflecting methodological issues in IT technology-based research: (a) difficulties in recruitment due to necessary technology literacy; (b) facilitating recruitment through allowing the use of multiple languages; (c) participants' preferences for specific IT technology; (d) efforts needed to ensure technological security; (e) participants' preferences for design; and (f) necessary considerations on timing.
CONCLUSION
Finally, future directions for nursing research using IT technology are proposed based on the identified issues.

PURPOSE
The use of video-recording offers important advantages in observing and assessing the relationship between specific behaviors in health care settings. The purpose of this systematic review is to investigate and synthesize the methodological characteristics of studies using video-technology for measuring interactions with the older persons with dementia and staff in long-term care facilities.
METHODS
We searched Medline, Embase and CINHAL databases for published articles in English using a video-recording method for both staff and the residents with dementia. Quantitative research design studies (e.g., descriptive or experimental studies) were included.
RESULTS
Among 5,605 searched papers, a total of 20 studies were selected for this review. Situations of video-recording were providing personal care (n=12), mealtime (n=6), and conversation (n=3). Concepts measured by video-recording were classified into two groups: 1) Staff [care practice by staff (n=13) and communication by staff (n=11)] and 2) residents [communication by resident (n=4), activities of daily life function of resident (n=8), and behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (n=10)].
CONCLUSION
This review demonstrates that video technologies are actively used to evaluate the relationship between quality of care and health outcomes of the elderly with dementia in many international nursing studies. This study provides the foundation for a future research using video-recording technologies to examine the interactions and relationships between staff and the residents in Korean long-term care settings.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to identify levels of health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) and its related factors among merchants in traditional markets.
METHODS
A cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected through questionnaires and physical examination on blood pressure, blood glucose, total cholesterol and BMI between February 12 and April 13, 2018. The participants were 175 merchants from two traditional markets in U. Metropolitan city. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program.
RESULTS
Levels of health-related EQ-5D were significantly different according to demographic characteristics, smoking status, exercise, total cholesterol, BMI, subjective health status, stress, and depression. The EQ-5D related factors were variables that had significant influence on subjective health status (β=.30, p < .001), gender (β=.27, p < .001), BMI (β=−.16, p=.012), depression (β=−.17, p=.010), and working period (β=−.15, p=.021). They explained 27.2% of the total variance of health-related quality of life (F=13.91, p < .001).
CONCLUSION
The findings of this study indicated that disease prevention and health management is essential for merchants who work in traditional markets to promote their health-related quality of life. For better merchants outcome, the intervention program should consider factors that are subjective health status, gender, BMI, depression, and working period in order to improve levels of EQ-5D.

PURPOSE
The aim of this study is to explore different types of self-rated health trajectories among one-person households in Korea.
METHODS
We used five time-point data derived from Korea Health Panel (2011~2015). A latent growth curve modeling was used to assess the overall feature of self-rated health trajectory in one-person households, and a latent class growth modeling was used to determine the number and shape of trajectories. We then applied multinomial logistic regression on each class to explore the predicting variables.
RESULTS
We found that the overall slope of self-rated health in one-person households decreases. In addition, latent class analysis demonstrated three classes: 1) High-Decreasing class (i.e., high intercept, significantly decreasing slope), 2) Moderate-Decreasing class (i.e., average intercept, significantly decreasing slope), and 3) Low-Stable class (i.e., low intercept, flat and nonsignificant slope). The multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that the predictors of each class were different. Especially, one-person households with poor health condition early were at greater risk of being Low-Stable class compared with High-Decreasing class group.
CONCLUSION
The findings of this study demonstrate that more attentions to one-person households are needed to promote their health status. Policymakers may develop different health and welfare programs depending on different characteristics of one-person household trajectory groups in Korea.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with the intention of the prostate cancer screening (PCS). To achieve this purpose, a structural equation model was established based on the health belief model and the theory of planned behavior.
METHODS
The subjects of this study were 260 male participants who were between 40 and 74 years old and had not taken the PCS. Data were collected using a structured self-report questionnaire (i.e., perceived benefits, perceived barriers, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, and intention of the PCS). Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and fitness test were used to test hypotheses.
RESULTS
The intention of the PCS was directly affected by the perceived behavior control and indirectly influenced by the perceived benefits. The structural equation model also showed that the perceived behavior control explained 78% of the intention.
CONCLUSION
To raise the intention to take the PCS, it is necessary to increase the confidence of a subject that may control its difficulties and inform the perceived benefits of the PCS to a subject.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to provide a clear definition of the health literacy for patients with cardiovascular disease by analyzing the dimensions and properties using Hybrid concept analysis.
METHODS
The concept of health literacy of patients with cardiovascular disease was analyzed according to the cyclic process of theoretical phase-field work phase-final analysis phase presented in the Hybrid model. We reviewed 26 literatures and conducted in-depth interviews with 13 patients with cardiovascular disease.
RESULTS
The concept of health literacy in cardiovascular patients is derived from two dimensions and five attributes. Literacy skills, health information search ability and health information utilization skills were derived as attributes in the individual functional dimension, while active communication with the medical team and utilization of health information support resources were derived at the interrelational dimension. It is defined as the individualized and integrated ability of an individual to explore and utilize the various health information needed to make appropriate health decisions during the chronic course after diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, to communicate proactively with medical staffs and to utilize support resources.
CONCLUSION
This study will contribute to the development and related research of health literacy measurement tools that can be used in cardiovascular nursing practice based on the attributes and indicators of health literacy for patients with cardiovascular disease.

PURPOSE
The aim of this study was to identify the participation rate of the National Health Screening Program (NHSP) and its influencing factors by cognitive function level in Korean older adults.
METHODS
This study was a secondary analysis using data from the survey of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging in 2016. The data were analyzed using χ² test and multiple logistic regression.
RESULTS
The participation rates of the NHSP in the mild cognitive impairment group (79.6%) and the suspected dementia group (58.0%) were lower than the normal cognitive function group (88.1%). The factors influencing NHSP varied by cognitive function level. Especially, in the suspected dementia group, higher participation rates of the NHSP were associated with living in rural areas, enrollment in private health insurance, no depressive symptoms, participation in social activities, and no living with children. Depression and participation in social activities influenced participation in NHSP in all groups.
CONCLUSION
This study suggests that interventions differentiated by cognitive function level are important for increasing the participation in the health screening.

PURPOSE
The aim of this study was to identify the factors related to the social distance toward older adults in nursing college students.
METHODS
The participants comprised 137 students in a nursing college. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires in March 2019. The measurement instruments included social distance scales, the Fact on Aging Quiz (FAQ I), a 20-item semantic differential scale (to assess attitudes), and the perceived elderly stigma scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and a multiple regression analysis.
RESULTS
The total score for social distance toward older adults was 3.98±0.54 out of a maximum of 5. Social distance had a statistically significant relationship with knowledge (r=.20, p=.022), attitudes toward older adults (r=−.31, p < .001), and elderly stigma (r=−.27 p=.008). The factors affecting social distance were education in geriatrics (β=.33, p=.004), grade (β=-.29, p=.014), attitudes (β=−.21, p=.018), academic major satisfaction (β=.19, p=.028), and knowledge (β=.15, p=.048); the explanatory power of the model was 34%.
CONCLUSION
There is a need for departmental efforts that nursing students acquire correct knowledge about the life and health of the elderly with the aging process and develop positive attitudes toward older adults through various experiences in gerontological nursing practicum and community senior-college student link programs.
